The movie theaters is just straight lack of content, lack of quality content. It's not the problem they're having in the movie theaters.
But it does speak to maybe the hesitance that some people do have at least returning to shows at this point.ĭAVE BRIGGS: Yeah, that's going to be a long haul to get back to the numbers they saw pre-pandemic, and quite frankly may never.
So hopefully, it doesn't mean that more shows are going to close. So the cost of running this show at least is outweighing now the interest that "Phantom of the Opera" is seeing from its ticket sales. But I think it also speaks more broadly to what we've seen on Broadway, too, right? People aren't exactly going back to shows maybe at the rate that we were expecting, at least in this case. I do have a couple of months, though, to get to it since it's not closing until February. I haven't seen it either, and I'm a big Broadway fan. SEANA SMITH: Yeah, yeah, he's extremely talented. If you ask me to name a show, that one, it was terrific. First show I saw definitely the one that sticks in my head. It's a different experience everywhere you see it.ĭAVE BRIGGS: Definitely have to see it on Broadway. But I'll say, I want to see it on Broadway, though. You know, it's one of those ones where you just always thought it would be around, and so you didn't do it. You make sure you get to it.ĭAVE BRIGGS: It's a fantastic show. But obviously, if you're trying to get to it over here, you've got to- the rush is on. However, the show will live on in its global productions. The show will celebrate its 35th anniversary, and then will play its final performance on Broadway on February 18.
